Introducing... Me!
Anthony Wong is an artist from Virginia. He attended George Mason University, majoring in Visual Arts with a concentration in painting. He transferred from Northern Virginia Community College with an associates degree in Fine Arts.
Anthony started out in his college career as a graphic design major. While working towards his degree, he had to take several fine arts courses using paint and charcoal. He has always been a hands-on worker, and, with a change in heart, he shifted his degree to Fine Arts, but takes his graphic design background and adds it to further his art. Since then, Anthony has experimented in multiple mediums outside of basic traditional and digital mediums such as photography, carpentry, and metalwork.
Anthony's inspiration stems from all of his interests. Video games, cartoons, his Chinese heritage, and the LGBTQ+ community are some to name a few! He enjoys a wide variety of music (yes, even country) but especially loves punk music, and can play guitar.
In his free time, you can find him playing both video and board games, collecting Pokémon cards, or cosplaying at comic cons!
Artist Statement
As an artist, I want to capture the more youthful side of art; I want to create playful, awe-inspiring pieces that make the viewer feel like a kid in a candy shop. When I first started out, I would make art with just graphite and colored pencils, but throughout my art career I realized there are many more mediums, and I was determined to try them all. I wanted to expand my skill set by creating both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art with wood, metal, and other 3-dimensional materials. In school, I discovered my love for digital art. As I continued to work digitally, I realized my real passion is painting; there’s something about applying the paint to the canvas and physically creating with my hands that is much more satisfying and allows my work to flow. Throughout all my work, regardless of medium, there is one key unifying feature: color. I love to create vibrant works of art with dynamic color palettes. I want to bring out the playful, whimsical side of the viewer, to make them feel like anything is possible.
